Guckkasten's new EP's song descriptions(?)
Hey there. there was this kind of backgorund/describtion/whatsoever on the ruby saloon blog and hyangmusic. I thought it would be nice to translate it, to have a better understanding and feeling for the songs. well, it was already confusing in korean (that's why I decided to translate literally instead of summarizing) but it's even more confusing in english ㅠㅠ it may be also due the fact that I left all the nested sentences as they were in korean. (what professionals don't do.)

hope you get along with it like that, I can't do better ;_;

Scarlet Field

An angel becomes a bird as price for opposing the imperfect world, and makes his passion bloom with his last energy. This passion soon forms into a scarlet field; it’s the last creation the angel who became a bird could make and is at the same time his unique space he can go to. The action of the angel, crashing the imperfect world that hindered us first, gives us the courage to react. Following the angel, in order to break the things that became taboo, we go ‘to touch the sun’, when ‘our hot growing bodies become estranged bit by bit’ and, our sacrifice follows, but ‘we pass by the last corner of flames’ and finally knock on the door of prohibition. Even if the angel who opposed the imperfect world is not an angel anymore, became a bird with different wings, and crashed into the scarlet field, we willingly go to crash that prohibition. This world is actually not an outside world, but an inside world of one self, an ego that can soon be interpreted as ‘the cursed ground in me’. After all, the scarlet field is the new world, made through someone’s own sacrifice, in other words, it’s the self-discovery someone comes in contact with, crashing the thinking the ego sticks to. The existence of the angel, being a preceding factor, which can crash this adhere thinking, will be a personal, special moment forming in the lives of the people who will listen to this music.
With this song, which Ha Hyun Woo made on the basis of a dream, one escapes all virtue and evil, permission and prohibition, and it draws the state after reaching the things one wanted to accomplish. The angel commits a taboo and becomes a bird, the place he falls onto becomes a scarlet field; the song ‘scarlet field’ forms the struggle between passion and to that conflicting taboos.

Manicure

“With a strange color already lost the sight on one eye, crying in a strange voice, merciless it rebukes you in the wicked illusion and crying awfully” you resembled a seiren. She allures sailors with her singing and takes their soul. The seiren of ancient times had the form of a bird with a woman’s head and sharp claws; singing with a sweet and tender voice, she robbed the souls of the bypassing crew. The form of a bird changed to a mermaid with a fish tail, and in 1230 Barthelemy expressed them in his own dictionary as ‘a monster, after making the man fall into slumber, she forces him to sleep with her and if he rejects, she kills him and plucks off his flesh and eats it’. Guckkasten’s ‘Manicure’ let think of this legend of the seiren. Her beautiful looking features, alluring with her voice, making an illusion, it deceives the sailor’s eyes. ‘Manicure’ reveals the deceit of a woman. ‘This rhythm, totally diverging worthlessly, drowning in it without constraint’. The wonderful and tender voice is actually an awful, horrible shriek and no matter how much she tries to hide, it’s dirty and disgusting and ‘merciless it rebukes you in the wicked illusion and you’re crying awfully’, can’t hide it, ‘scraping the shattered body with split and outgrowing fingernails’. But still, even if it’s that dirty and disgusting, I can’t leave her. Me, who’s already caught in an illusion, even knowing her “truth”, I can’t get out of the “illusion” I myself believe in. Looking away from that truth, the illusion that she allured, being caught in an illusion that’s forming itself, I become a me who ‘throws me away and steals you’.

'seiren' seems just like another type of siren, not quite sure on that. Barthelemy seems some important christian guy ㅠㅠ *fails*

oh right, and Tagtraeume is an instrumental. :|

i think the Seiren is a mythical creature just like described in the context you translated. :)

It's really interesting on how the titles are formed. I watched their performance in Yoo HeeYeol's Sketchbook and they talked about the meaning of their band's name and as well as Tagtraume, along with Scarlet Field. And the way HyunWoo said it is really amusing and interesting XD

Thanks for translating! lovee Guckkasten!

I was confused because there seem to be different types, 'siren, 'seren' and 'siren' or idk, it wasn't really visible from the korean. but yeah, guess it's simply that what he describes there.

yeah, i watched it too (i love the way he talks! lol) I tried to sub it but gave up on it half way through orz It's funny, they just could have left it in singular, 'Tagtraum', it exactly sounds the way they are pronouncing it, but they made it difficult, taking the plural 'Tagtraeume' XD Since I am german, I really had fun listening to them trying to pronounce it XD

thanks for loving Guckkasten! I love them too~
